0612SSI610 - 2025/2026 - FILM AND LITERATURE - C1

Film and Literature is a field of study that examines how stories and human experiences are expressed through two different media: written texts and moving images. Literature relies entirely on written language to create meaning, using description, narration, and figurative language to stimulate the reader’s imagination and allow personal interpretation. In contrast, film communicates through visual and auditory elements such as images, dialogue, music, camera movement, and editing, presenting characters and events directly to the audience. While literature invites readers to imagine the world internally and control the pace of engagement, film constructs meaning through cinematic techniques and unfolds in real time under the director’s control. Thus, although both forms tell stories and explore similar themes, they differ fundamentally in their medium, narrative techniques, and the way audiences experience them.
